How does your past trauma inhibit your health today?
Trauma that we experienced in childhood can continue to consume part of our vital life energy today. In these cases, some energy remains in the past and isn’t available to help us function in the here and now. We can think of that traumatized part of ourselves as being cut off from the rest of us, which was necessary at some point for our survival. The amount of energy that is stuck depends on the severity of the trauma we’ve suffered.
.
At the time of the trauma, it was useful for us to compartmentalize it and hold its effects away from our being, to refrain from overloading the nervous system. In order to enjoy good health, though, all of our life energy needs to circulate throughout the body/mind freely. That cut off or sequestered part due to trauma can therefore be implicated in our present-day level of ill health.
.
How this unease shows up in your body will be different than how it shows up in another’s. To understand chronic disease, homeopaths are always interested in looking at what happened in a person’s life in the past that might have consumed some of their vital energy. And then we ask the question: How can we get stimulate a change to help that blocked energy regain its natural flow?
.
Working through the ways in which past trauma impacts our health today isn’t a clear-cut easy fix. Often, the built-up defences in response to trauma have become embedded and are part of the bedrock of chronic disease. Slowly and with care, we use homeopathy delicately where trauma is concerned, seeing how much we can stimulate and support a person’s present resources until such time that he/she is strong enough to reclaim the energy that is trapped in the past.
