A shift is needed from fixing yourself to supporting yourself for optimal health

When we’re sick or struggling it’s common that we want a way out, a fix or a resolution. “What’s wrong with me? Why do I hurt this much? Someone diagnose me!”

What if we change our thinking from, “What’s wrong with me” to “What support do I need to feel well?” Most people think that they need to know ‘what’s wrong’ in order to determine what solutions are needed. In many cases, that’s true. We need to search for the root cause of dis-ease and understand its nature.

But in so many cases, the quest for what’s wrong drives people off the rails, further from healing. First do your medical tests to determine if there’s anything glaring causing your struggle. If you are one of the millions of people with nebulous health struggles, broader your thinking from fixing to support.

What if your symptoms represent your body’s best attempt to cope given the sum total of stressors you’ve faced? Most of us become acclimatized to our life stressors and we lose sight of their impact on us.

If your body/mind isn’t coping well, it’s possible that the solution is more support and more inner work, in addition to your medical care. Better nutrition, deeper rest, meditation as medicine, high-quality supplements, body-work, emotional therapy, time with self, time in nature, and energy medicine like homeopathy or traditional Chinese medicine. I know this list is time-consuming and expensive, you may need mentorship to create the program that’s right for you.

Most people seem to hop from one therapist to the next hoping for the cure. For so many stress/life-related illnesses, what’s needed is a broad integrated approach with good therapists from each of these categories.

Your body knows how to find homeostatic or balance. Wholeness lives within each of us. Depending on how hard life’s been on you, it may be a long journey to get back there but I believe it’s possible. Do you?
