Pain Makes Us Contract Contraction Increases Pain

One of the most challenging aspects of healing chronic pain is the cyclical nature of it. Chronic pain syndromes of all kinds become a chicken and egg scenario. When we are in pain, the natural reaction is to contract. Contraction reduces blood flow, creates energetic blocks and increases pain. In order to stop contracting, we generally need relief. In order to sustain the relief, we need to stop contracting.

Treatment needs to create a break in this cycle. Most often the approach is to find relief on the physical plane through some kind of body therapy. That’s a great start. The challenge is that the body/mind is habituated to a particular way of being and that response can get triggered even when the body has shifted.

Homeopathic remedies influence the mind and the body simultaneously and can support people in breaking the cycle of pain-contraction-pain. The right remedy can make you feel like the other ways you attempt to take care of yourself are easier. For example, beyond a certain threshold of mental or emotional stress, it can be challenging to do any kind of mindfulness practice. Mindfulness and breathing reduce the automatic contraction response and reduce pain but if the person is too stressed to be mindful, then what?
