Beyond Talk Based Therapy

While I respect and value the benefits of psychotherapy, I also recognize that many people are looking for an alternative, especially if they’ve been in talk based therapy for a while and feel like some things are just not changing.

The mind is the creator of our prison so if we try and free ourselves from the prison with the very creator of the prison, it's a bit limited.

We can have all kinds of strategies of how we want to act, but the reality is that when people are triggered in their core wounds, particularly in childhood wounds, unconscious patterns play out. We can only master strategies and techniques when we're not in a triggered state. As soon as we're triggered, the whole plan generally falls to the wayside, and people feel like they're back to square one.

Rather than accessing the material exclusively through the mind, the somatic alternative I teach is a presence-based approach that can support you in working through your emotional material in a way you may never have before. We use the body to:

✔ Get present and land in ourselves through guided meditation
✔ See what’s true in our body right now and guide us to what’s relevant
✔ Focus our awareness on wherever we have the greatest sensation and allow any thoughts, memories, and feelings to emerge
✔ Access the original source of pain to heal from within

The process is slow and gentle. I teach people how to do it for themselves by holding space and providing a loving mirror for people to see themselves, experience themselves, and connect with their wounded parts in a way that is more challenging to access on their own.

Share with someone you love if you feel this could help.
